Say No to Energy Vampires

Are you tired of friends, family or colleagues constantly off-loading their problems on to you?

Would you like to ditch the drama and start connecting with positive souls who make you feel good?

If there are people in your life who are stealing your joy and vitality, here's what to do...

First, notice how you feel when you're with other people.

Do you mostly enjoy being around them? Do you feel joyful and uplifted or tense and drained?

If someone is overtly negative or moaning about their problems without giving you any consideration, then make a conscious choice to nurture yourself first and protect your emotional well-being.

Be assertive and say 'no' to energy vampires. Don't allow them to involve you in their dramas and negative thinking. Of course, listen and be empathic. Offer to help where you can. But, don't let them trample over your own happiness and peace of mind.

Lead by example. Be positive and joyful. The person you're with could just be going through a difficult time. See if your positive outlook can help lighten the situation.

If someone is constantly stealing your joy and weighing you down with their negative thoughts and actions, spend less time with that person.

Instead, start to connect with like-minded people. Choose to be with those who are generally uplifting to be around.

Be discerning. We all have off-days and, sometimes, there is just-cause to rant and moan. If, however, you find that someone is constantly making you feel tired and drained, then it's time to detach to protect your well-being.

Life is to be enjoyed not endured. Relationships should be enriching. So, choose to spend your time with people who respect you rather than use you. It makes a difference!

Today's quote:

'If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.' - Steve Jobs
